11th Candid Photo

[Hachibe's pretty depressed about his rather dismal performance in Olivier Armstrong's fighting tournament.  He's never going to impress her if he keeps on going like that.  Deep down, he knows he's capable of some pretty amazing things when he's fighting for his precious parts, but what about the rest of the time?  Maybe some training would help him all around.  So, citizens of Mayfield, you can find Hachibe after school on Tuesday in several different places:

1) At the gym in the rec center.  He's trying to lift way too many weights at once, huffing and straining and periodically dropping the bar on himself.  He hasn't actually managed any reps so far.

2) Running around town rather sluggishly.  Somehow, he's managed to find training weights, and has them strapped to his ankles as he makes his way slowly through town.

3) Swimming in the pool.  He's not doing too badly here, but he's pushing himself a little harder than he probably ought to be.  Feel free to find him floating face-down in the middle of a lap, or flopped over on his back beside the pool breathing heavily.]

Because it's the only thing I can do.

It is a thing you cannot do.

Train to improve yourself. That is an admirable thing. Seeking the impossible is . . . not.

But even I don't reach my goal, I'll have still improved along the way anyway, right?

[identity profile] bogusmagicker.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why purposefully set a goal you cannot attain?

[identity profile] pygmalion-perv.livejournal.com 2010-09-22 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Because then I'll never stop trying.

If I set an unattainable goal, I'll have to keep working at it forever, right? So I'll just keep on improving. I might not ever get there, but it won't stop me from trying anyway.

The same result would be obtained if you set successively higher goals, with the additional benefit of the application of classical conditioning.

It's the way I've always lived my life.

. . . . .

[Yuki has used up her word quota for this conversation and merely headtilts curiously at him instead.]

[Yuki is the Staring Queen.]

...Is there something on my face?

[identity profile] bogusmagicker.livejournal.com 2010-09-27 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Yuki does not respond but perhaps Hachibe may see the slightest of nods.]

[Still not taking his eyes off her, he brings his hand up to wipe at his entire face all at once.]

[There is still something on your face Hachibe. It is called water.]

So, uh... I'm gonna swim some more...

[Yuki nods again in understanding. And drifts away.]
